Recovery of Rare Earth Elements from the Leaching Solutions of Spent NdFeB Permanent Magnets by Selective Precipitation of Rare Earth Oxalates

چکیده
After mechanical pre-treatment, the typical hydrometallurgical route of NdFeB magnet recycling starts with leaching in acidic solutions. However, due to high concentration iron ions solution, selective recovery rare earths from solution is challenging. In our work, precipitation earth oxalates as a potential separation method was proposed. The neodymium oxalate first tested on model solutions, which then followed by experimental tests carried out real solutions after magnets. form investigated use different amounts oxalic acid relation its stoichiometric amount. most efficient observed case where sulfuric used for leaching. resulted about 93% all present whereas Fe and other elements (Ni, Co, B) practically did not change. An increase 20% 40% more than amount (100%) led efficiency 96.7% 98.1%, respectively. 1.4 ratio caused 7% decrease concentration, suggests co-precipitation. order investigate possibility further increasing iron, an additional tested, oxidized Fe2+ Fe3+ before oxalates.

Rare earth (RE) magnets have become virtually indispensible in a wide variety of industries such as aerospace, automotive, electronics, medical, and military. RE elements are essential ingredients in these high performance magnets based on intermetallic compounds RECo5, RE2TM17 (TM: transition metal), and RE2TM14B. Rare earth magnets are known for their superior magnetic properties—high inducti...

The introduction of rare-earth permanent magnets based on samarium-cobalt in about 1970, and neodymium-iron-boron magnets in the mid-nineteen eighties, has ushered in a new era in hard magnetic materials. This has resulted in a dramatic improvement in permanent magnet performance, with neodymium-iron-boron (Nd2Fe14B) magnets having a magnetic energy product up to an order of magnitude greater t...

Definitions and characteristics The rare earth elements (REE) (sometimes referred to as the rare earth metals) are a group of 17 chemically similar metallic elements, including the 15 lanthanides, scandium and yttrium. The lanthanides are elements spanning atomic numbers 57 (lanthanum, La) to 71 (lutetium, Lu) (Table 1). The lanthanides all occur in nature, although promethium, the rarest, only...
متن کاملRecovery and Separation of Rare Earth Elements Using Salmon Milt
Recycling rare earth elements (REEs) used in advanced materials such as Nd magnets is important for the efficient use of REE resources when the supply of several REEs is limited. In this work, the feasibility of using salmon milt for REE recovery and separation was examined, along with the identification of the binding site of REEs in salmon milt. Results showed that (i) salmon milt has a suffi...
